Dear Parent/Guardian:  

Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, the United States Department of Education in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Education will be working to ensure that children of military families are assisted in removing any barriers that they may face when transferring between educational entities due to frequent moves and the deployment of their parent(s). 

In December 2015, the members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives voted in favor of the Every Student Succeeds Act. The legislation includes a military student identifier that will enable military leaders, educators, and elected officials at all levels of government to understand how military-connected children are performing in school. It authorizes the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to join the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. 

Purpose of Compact 

  • Facilitating the timely enrollment of children of military families and ensuring that they are not placed at a disadvantage due to difficulty in the transfer of education records from the previous school district(s) or variations in entrance/age requirements.
  • Facilitating the student placement process through which children of military families are not disadvantaged by variations in attendance requirements, scheduling, sequencing, grading, course content or assessment.  

Teachers and school administrators are often unaware of military-connected children being within their schools and classrooms. The data collected will help educational entities to further assist the academic needs as well as the social and emotional well-being of these children. 

In order to fulfill the new requirements and assist our student(s) in military families, a SHORT SURVEY has been added for active duty members of any branch of the United States Armed Forces that have children enrolled and attending the Bensalem Township School District.
