A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation
Under Dr. Lee’s leadership, the district has been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education for the 5th year in a row and the BTSD Art Department was recognized as an Outstanding Visual Arts Community by the PAEA. For the past five consecutive years, BHS Marine Corps JROTC was officially designated as a Naval Honor School. Only the top 20 percent of the 260 programs in the nation earn this award. Dr. Lee managed a massive renovation of our High School and introduced a career pathways model that allows students to choose a pathway to focus their elective choices for their academic career. He expanded Dual Enrollment and One to One technology for all students. Our Chromebook initiative gives students ever-present access to technology. In addition, this initiative helps to close the digital divide between students who have technology at home and those who do not. He was instrumental in securing professional development platforms like our partnership with Professional Learning Partnerships LLC for neurosciences. Under Dr. Lee’s leadership, BTSD expanded STEM education, student-driven research opportunities, and innovative learning experiences, ensuring students are well-prepared for future success.
His tenure is marked by significant milestones, including:
Academic Excellence/Student Awards and Recognition: This year, Bensalem High School (BHS) had a record number of 57 members qualify for the DECA state competition. 10 students were medalists with 6 advancing to ICDC in Orlando. 66 BHS, Shafer and Snyder Middle School scientists received first place awards for their scientific research at the 82nd Annual Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional competition qualifying them to compete in the state competition at Pennsylvania State University Main Campus. The Bensalem High School Class of 2023 and 2024 earned 368 micro-credentials. BHS’s Mock Trial team placed 4th in the state last year and are doing exceptionally well again this year.
Focus on Student Wellness: Recognizing the growing pressures on students, Dr. Lee championed initiatives to support mental health, student resilience, and well-being. In September, we partnered with Care Solace, a concierge service that provides service to families by checking insurance and linking them with providers.
Expanding Student Support Services: During Dr. Lee’s tenure, BTSD has expanded Title I programs, enhanced special education services, and strengthened student mental health initiatives to ensure all learners have the resources they need to succeed. The district has added more social workers and counselors, increased intervention programs for struggling students, and prioritized student wellness through proactive mental health initiatives and advisory supports.
Fiscal Responsibility: Dr. Lee provides sound and effective district governance and oversaw the district’s return to budgetary structural balance.
